I have the great pleasure to announce that thanks to generous support from many existing and new donors, the CLC has exceeded its $1.85 million goal for our Timeless Chocorua capital campaign…
The water quality of Chocorua Lake continued to be excellent through the spring, summer and fall of 2016. Water clarity, chlorophyll-a (a measure of suspended algal growth) and total phosphorous were all well within the excellent range.
Ongoing interest in the health of Chocorua Lake began in the mid-1970s when college students in freshwater biology classes at UNH started coming to the lake on field trips to practice water sampling techniques they had learned in class.
Particularly interesting was the effect of Hurricane Irene in late August of 2011 (see page 47) on the lake-water quality as well as the long-term positive effect of installation of best management practices on the eastern shore in 1999.
