This past September, the Friends of the Cook Memorial Library asked us to speak at their Annual Meeting and share the history and current activity of CLC with their group. Many thanks to the Friends for this invitation, which provided the impetus to write a short history of the Lake Basin and CLC. For a longer history, rich with detail, of both CLC and the Lake Basin, pick up a copy of Timeless Chocorua: 50 Years of Conserving the Basin (1968-2018) in our online shop—this book, published in CLC’s 50th anniversary year, includes natural and cultural history of the Lake Basin stretching much farther back than 1968, and was an invaluable resource in the creation of this talk, as were longtime board members Peg Wheeler and Neely Lanou. Thank you to everyone who has kept track of and shared these many histories. You can find an audio version of the talk below, and a written version HERE. You can also view the 2018 Chocorua Lake Crankie mentioned in the talk.
