CMC Trails Committee seeks volunteers

Mark your calendar for the next CMC Trail Clearing Day,  Saturday, May 11, 2024!

Now that the Chocorua Mountain Club has been merged into CLC, and as CLC expands its own trail stewardship, we are seeking volunteers to help in different ways to care for the many trails up Mount Chocorua and on nearby conservation land. Volunteer opportunities range from attending a single trail stewardship workday to adopting a trail to monitor several times a year to joining the new Chocorua Mountain Club Trails Committee. Please get in touch to let us know which of these roles appeal to you!

Volunteer opportunities include:

  1. CMC Trails Committee Chair, or Co-Chair

  2. Trail Steward* for a particular trail (tell us which trail)

  3. One of many mountain trail workers

  4. Conservation Lands trail worker

  5. Committee member to help organize trail clearing events

  6. Committee member to help with communication

  7. Keeper of trail maps & things with CMC logos for sale

  8. Dinner organizer on trail clearing day

  9. Notetaker, because historical records are important

  10. Coordination with other local organizations

  11. Undecided, but please add me to a list for further communications.

*Trail Stewards will be assigned to particular trails, not to be the sole manager, but to be responsible for walking that trail two to three times a year, and reporting back any matters of concern (blowdowns, flooding, erosion, need for new signs and the like) so that appropriate workers can be assigned by the time of the next trail clearing day.

Please also let us know what additional resources or skills you might possess (saws, rakes, map-making, sign carving, boardwalk building, or just a clean dry place for storing new CMC sweatshirts, maps, and the like) or if you think you would be good at outreach and fund-raising.

Thanks!
