Dear CLC Friends,
While the warmer seasons present a highly active Chocorua Lake Conservancy with the arrival of many visitors to the shores of the lake and to our many trails, the more dormant winter season remained an active one for the CLC Board, committee members, and staff. We have continued to expand our community programming through a mix of in-person and remote workshops, and have celebrated the addition of the Browne, Greenough, VerPlanck Forest to the CLC's special properties.
And, of course, we have been in the process of hiring our first ever Executive Director. An executive director of a land trust, working in partnership and collaboration with a board of directors, has many responsibilities, including overseeing the day-to-day activities of the organization, the management of the organization's office, budget, staff, and fee-owned properties, as well as land protection and stewardship, community outreach, and fundraising.
The Board is pleased to announce that it has selected Alex Moot as its Executive Director. He has left the CLC Board, and will step into this role on April 11th.
Throughout his years of involvement with the CLC and its predecessor organizations, Alex has demonstrated his skill and acumen in leading the CLC as a volunteer, and he is committed to the new challenges of the full-time executive director position. His intimate involvement with the evolution of the CLC over the past many years will also be invaluable for our organization. This is an exciting time for the CLC!
As a Board, we feel that it is important to share with you our search process. As many of you may know, when Lynne Flaccus announced her departure from the CLC, we anticipated hiring a new Stewardship Director. During the application review process, the search committee, and then the Board, reflected on our evolution as an organization, and we instead decided the time was right to hire a full-time executive director. We received twenty-four applications from individuals across the country and interviewed seven candidates. The search committee brought three finalists to the full Board for a second interview. The entire Board (through the wonders of Zoom) was able to participate in and/or review these three interviews.
The Board is confident this position will enhance the CLC's status as a professional land trust charged with protecting and preserving the special area that is the Chocorua Lake Basin. Going forward, we will continue to assess our priorities and vision, and implement policies and procedures to best protect the Chocorua Lake Basin.
The Board, together with Alex as our Executive Director, is looking forward to this new chapter for the CLC. Please join us in welcoming Alex as the CLC Executive Director!
Yours truly,
The CLC Board of Directors
