What happens when you do it all right and things still go wrong?
On Wednesday, March 4, from 6-7:30PM at Tuckerman Brewing Company in Conway, the public is invited to participate in “Mountain Safety & Rescue: Beyond the Ten Essentials,” a Sense of Place community forum. Join us as we hear from professionals on the front lines who respond to accidents and mis-adventures in the White Mountains. We’ll discuss the challenges related to running search and rescue operations in the rugged mountains and dense forests of our region, national trends related to increasing call volumes and how those trends play out locally, along with personal perspectives on recreating outdoors and how working in the search and rescue field has informed those points of view. Snow Rangers, Mountain Rescue Service, Conway Fire Department, and NH Fish and Game will be on hand to share stories and answer questions from the audience. Mike Morin of Access Fund will moderate.
“Mountain Safety & Rescue: Beyond the Ten Essentials” is the second of five themed community forums on outdoor recreation and public lands in the Mount Washington Valley, organized collaboratively by Access Fund, Backyard Concept, Chocorua Lake Conservancy, Hubbard Brook Research Foundation, REI, The Nature Conservancy, Tin Mountain Conservation Center, Upper Saco Valley Land Trust, and the White Mountain National Forest. Sense of Place forums take place on the first Wednesday of the month through June, at various locations in the Mount Washington Valley.
