How do recreation groups and land managers work together to maintain and create trails?
On Wednesday, February 5, from 6-7:30PM at Tuckerman Brewing Company in Conway, the public is invited to participate in “Building Partnerships & Maintaining Trails,” a Sense of Place community forum. Granite Backcountry Alliance has made headlines with their active approach to working with land managers to expand local backcountry skiing opportunities. Join this forum to discuss how landowners, land managers, and recreation user groups can work together to maintain and improve the network of trails in and around the Mount Washington Valley. Panelists will share short stories illustrating how they’ve navigated user group–land manager relationships, followed by a facilitated Q&A and group discussion about local trail-related issues. Jim Innes of the US Forest Service, White Mountain National Forest, will moderate. Tuckerman Brewing Company is wheelchair-accessible.
“Building Partnerships & Maintaining Trails” is the first of five themed community forums on outdoor recreation and public lands in the Mount Washington Valley, organized collaboratively by Access Fund, Backyard Concept, Chocorua Lake Conservancy, Hubbard Brook Research Foundation, REI, The Nature Conservancy, Tin Mountain Conservation Center, Upper Saco Valley Land Trust, and the White Mountain National Forest. Sense of Place forums will take place on the first Wednesday of the month, February through June, at various locations in the Mount Washington Valley.
About the Panelists:
William Abbott is the Executive Director of the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust.
Cristin Bailey is Trails Manager for the US Forest Service, White Mountain National Forest.
Erik Nelson is Regional Supervisor for the New Hampshire State Parks.
