How many of the CLC trails have you explored? Have you looked across the meandering Chocorua River toward the long flank of Mount Chocorua stretched out behind it?
Join Lynne Flaccus, naturalist and Chocorua Lake Conservancy Stewardship Director, for a Trail Stewardship Day at the Charlotte C. Browne Memorial Woods on Washington Hill Road in Chocorua. The trails on this CLC Preserve are short, a loop through the woods to an open blueberry field and another out and back to the Chocorua River. Our two property stewards for this preserve love to have help trimming back intruding branches and making sure the little seasonal brook crossing is cared for. Bring your favorite loppers or hand saw and join us for a morning of adventure, fresh air and exercise taking care of this wonderful resource.
The CC Browne Woods was donated to the CLC in 2005 to protect some of the wetlands on the Chocorua River, as well as the uplands, both of which provide habitat for a variety of plants and animals. Participants will learn about the property and our long-term stewardship plans for managing the land for wildlife and watershed protection. This property is a great birding spot, so you might want to bring binoculars: there’s always room for exploration while we work. If the blueberries have come along, you’ll be able to snack on a few of those, unless the birds have already eaten them all.
Bring work gloves and tools if you have them, and we will have some handy. Wear comfortable work shoes or boots, be prepared for insects and weather, and bring water to stay hydrated. We’ll meet at the edge of the field on Washington Hill Road. Look for the Charlotte C. Browne Memorial Woods sign on the north side of the road. Questions?
