"Island" Stewardship Day

  • The Island public access area, Chocorua Lake Route 16 Chocorua, NH 03817 United States (map)

The Chocorua Lake Conservancy protects the shore of Chocorua Lake and makes it accessible to the public free of charge. If you enjoy spending time at the lake, please consider helping us care for these public spaces.

On Thursday, November 14, from 9-11:30AM, join the Chocorua Lake Conservancy for a morning of stewardship at the “Island” public access area on Chocorua Lake. Clearing water bars, raking drainage ditches, spreading wood chips, erosion control, and generally putting the site to bed for the winter are the tasks for the morning. All within view of the beautiful lake and mountain!

CLC public access areas along the lake are used intensively through several seasons, and regular maintenance is required to prevent erosion at the lake’s edge and to support the trees that grow along the lake in the face of heavy foot traffic. While we work hard to make these lakeshore properties available for visitors throughout the year, we also need to make sure the impacts won’t have long-term effects on water quality and shore land buffers. Many hands make light work, and volunteers are greatly appreciated!

Meet at the Kiosk at the “Island” on Chocorua Lake off of Rt. 16. Bring your favorite clippers, rake, shovel, and work gloves and wear sturdy boots or shoes. We’ll have some extra tools as needed. Call the office 323-6252 for more information, or email lflaccus@chocorualakeconservancy.org
