Celebrate our beautiful lakes and the end of the busy summer season with a tranquil and beautiful lantern parade featuring your own gorgeous handmade lanterns!
Join the CLC and the Yeoman’s Fund for the Arts for one of two lantern workshops on Friday, August 30 and Saturday, August 31, with artist Gowri Savoor, and then bring your lanterns, kayaks and canoes and be part of a lantern flotilla on Squam Lake, setting off from the Town Beach at dusk, or the annual Parade of Lights on Chocorua Lake at dusk on Sunday, September 1, following a bring-your-own-picnic in the Grove at 6PM.
We’ll be offering day-long (10AM-3PM) workshops for ages 16 and up in which participants will make a pyramid lantern suitable for canoes or kayaks. Kids and teens are invited to join us from 1-3PM to make decorated vellum lanterns; ages 10 and under, please bring a helpful adult with you. Adults may have time to make a vellum lantern as well. Workshops will be held at the Craft Building on the Sandwich Fairgrounds on Friday, August 30, and at the Chocorua Library on Saturday, August 31. Space is limited; please scroll down to register for the appropriate workshop. Workshops are free, thanks to the Yeoman’s Fund for the Arts. A voluntary donation of $5-$15 per lantern to defer the cost of materials is appreciated. Please bring a pair of hand clippers if you have one, as well as lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.
