Stewardship Morning at C.C. Browne Woods

  • CLC Charlotte C. Browne Woods 1190 Washington Hill Rd Tamworth, NH, 03875 United States (map)

Our last stewardship event of the year!

On Thursday, November 4, from 9-11:30AM, join naturalist and Chocorua Lake Conservancy Stewardship Director Lynne Flaccus for a Stewardship Morning, clearing and removing invasive plants from the small north field near the edge of the Charlotte C. Browne Woods on Washington Hill Road in Chocorua.

During our last field clearing in the south field at Browne Woods, we managed to get all the edges cut back prior to mowing. Now we’ll tackle the small field that was the old log yard, keeping it open for a potential parking spot later on. We may also do some trimming along the stonewall, clearing some saplings and bittersweet, and releasing the grapevines that can be found in the tangle.

Join us for an hour or two of exercise and camaraderie , and some great views, too! You can stay for as long or little as you like and bring what tools you might have—long-handled loppers and handsaws will be helpful. We’ll have some spares as well.

The swallows and bluebirds that use the boxes will be gone, but plenty of other resident birds and perhaps a few sparrows may still be hanging around. The fields are managed for wildlife—open blueberry fields and an old patch cut coming back as young tree saplings, and a number of fruiting shrubs planted several years ago. Birding while working is allowed!

If you’re coming from the south, take Route 16 North past Chocorua Lake to Washington Hill Road on the right. At .6 miles near the top of the hill you can pull off into the field on the left and park there.

Please email lflaccus@chocorualake.org with your name and phone number to tell us you will be coming so that we can let you know of any changes to the schedule.

Naturalist and CLC Stewardship Director Lynne Flaccus has 30+ years of experience in land conservation and stewardship, managing protected properties, studying wildlife, and educating adults and children.
