Guided Hike to Heron Pond & Chocorua Lake

  • Chocorua Lake Conservancy Scott Reserve 266 Scott Rd Tamworth, NH, 03817 United States (map)

Join us for a guided hike on the Chocorua Lake Conservancy (CLC) Scott Reserve and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Bolles Reserve to explore late autumn happenings in the forest, passing by Heron Pond and Chocorua Lake along the way.

On Saturday, November 13, from 10AM-12:30PM, join naturalist and CLC Stewardship Director Lynne Flaccus for a casual hike along the trails through the Scott Reserve and the TNC’s Bolles Reserve, roughly 2.2 miles out and back. We’ll leave from the Hammond Trail parking lot on Scott Road and hike into Heron Pond via the Heron Pond Trail, enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of fall and exploring the changes that are happening in the natural world. From Heron Pond, we’ll follow the Lake Trail to the water along the boundary of the Bolles Reserve, for a view across the lake. To the east of this trail are extensive wetlands owned by TNC and CLC.

We’ll either take the Middle Trail back around Heron Pond or go back the way we came depending on time and group interests. Comfortable hiking shoes are necessary, water, warm layers of clothes, and an interest in observing all that is going on at this time of year. Some migratory stragglers may be passing through, or we may see and hear the resident birds working to put on fat before winter arrives in force.

If the Hammond parking space is full, pull over on the side of Scott Road, but please do not go beyond the access road to the parking and the bridge. This is a private drive and your cooperation will be appreciated by the landowners!

Please email lflaccus@chocorualake.org with your name and phone number to tell us you will be coming so that we can let you know of any changes to the schedule.
