As the nights grow long, we invite you to come together in community to create beautiful, colorful lanterns celebrating winter ecology.

On Sunday, November 24, from 1-4PM, join the Chocorua Lake Conservancy and the Yeoman’s Fund for the Arts at the Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth for Winter Ecology Lantern-Making with Lynne Flaccus, Peggy Johnson and Juno Lamb. We’ll consider some of the ways the natural world we’re a part of adapts to make it through the long New Hampshire winter, and then write, draw and paint images from this learning onto vellum to transform into lanterns with which to light up the winter nights.

We’ll assemble the lanterns for you after the paint dries and display them for the community at the Tamworth Town Caroling and Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 8 (come carry yours!), and at the Cook Library Open House on Tuesday, December 10. Come pick up your lantern then or from the library after that date.

The workshop is free and all ages are welcome—kids 10 and under, please bring a helpful adult with you. Voluntary donations to cover the cost of materials are appreciated and keep projects like this alive. About the Presenters:

Naturalist and CLC Stewardship Director Lynne Flaccus has 30 years of experience in land conservation and stewardship, managing protected properties, studying wildlife, and educating adults and children.

Peggy Johnson loves her work as a librarian at Cook Memorial Library, and as music director at Melvin Village Community Church and of Sandwich Singers. She is a poet, artist and book designer and maker.

CLC Director of Programming and Outreach Juno Lamb is an artist and writer with long experience teaching and facilitating community events.
